Spring 1 - Season Opener

NTK is about to kick off the 2010 race season with the first race of the season this weekend. Spring 1 is on Sunday March 14th, qualifying starts at 1pm.  Mark French is Race Director and still needs someone to help in Scoring & also the Gatehouse. Mark says if he gets all his workers in place before the event he will wear his new race director get-up to the event. Click Mark's photo to view more. Call Mark at 972-414-7249 to volunteer.

Sunday is daylight savings time. Don't forget to turn your clocks forward an hour. See you at the track!
 

Work Day List

Below is a list of repair and maintenance items that need attention at the track. The next work day is April 3rd. Help keep the track safe and in good repair. Join us on April 3rd for the work day & earn membership renewal credits.

Kid Karts 101 - Free Training Seminar

As the class sponsor for Kid Karts in 2010, Polar Graphics is happy to announce that we will be offering a free seminar for all kid karters and their tuners.  The session will cover some of the basics of equipment and safety in addition to training on setup and tuning of the kid kart.  We will also be covering tips on how to successfully coach your kid karter in future practice sessions and how to maximize the benefits from your practice sessions.

NTK board member Chris Williams, who has tuned for several kid karts and helped win 6 national championships, will teach the course.

Polar Graphics logoThe class is open to anyone wanting to learn more about their kid kart whether you are a current racer, prospective racer, member at NTK, or non-member.

The class will be on March 20th, from 2-4:30 at NTK.

Polar Graphics will provide drinks and snacks during the session.

NTK Rotax Max Challenge Series

NTK will host the local Rotax Max Challenge Series in 2010.

Rotax Max Challenge races will be held on the same dates as NTK club races.

All Rotax rules will be in effect with the following local option exceptions. If you plan to participate in the USA Rotax Nationals, or Pan American Rotax Max Challenge races be aware that all Rotax rules will be enforced
Entry Fees: 
NTK Member Entry Fees (includes Entry and Driver Insurance Pass): $54 
Non-Member Entry Fees (includes Entry and Driver Insurance Pass): $69

Race format:
5 minute qualifying (may qualify with club Rotax classes if necessary), 8 lap Pre-Finals, 16 lap Finals.

Charles Nearburg Breaks Land Speed Record!

"Spirit of Rett" Single engine 35' Streamliner
Long time NTK member Charles Nearburg breaks the 400 mph barrier and sets a new world record at the SCTA World Finals at Bonneville Salt Flats in his single engine 35 foot Streamliner!  The Red Line Oil sponsored "Spirit of Rett" Streamliner is the first single-engine normally aspirated car to break the 400mph barrier.

Charles Nearburg set two new Bonneville records:   The AA/Gas streamliner record at 368.136 mph, and the AA/Fuel  streamliner record at 392.503 mph.  In addition to setting these two records, the Spirit of Rett set a fastest speed of the meet at 402.955 MPH.  With these records, the Spirit of Rett has set the following milestones:
  • First unblown single-engine car in history over 400 MPH
  • Fastest single engine normally aspirated car on gas/fuel

Cole Glasson's FWT Race Report


Read about Cole Glasson weekend at the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the Florida Winter Tour's Rotax Challenge series in this eKartingNews article.  The fields were deep and competition was tough with 47 karts in the Rotax Mini max class. Summary of Major 2010 NTK Rule Changes

The following is a brief summary of the major rule changes to the  NTK 2010 Rule Book 407K
  • Removed $100 penalty at membership renewal time for not working a club race.
  • Snell 2005 helmet will be required in 2011 (Snell 2000 required in 2010 race season)
  • Only purpose built race karts are allowed on the track on race days and non race days
  • Classes with 7 or less entries may be combined and will be gridded by qualifying times and scored separately
  • Formula Y Stock class rules added - note minimum flex length is 12.25"
  • Club Rotax classes not required to have full rear bumper
  • Stock Shifter classes rules current SKUSA rules, tires per NTK club tire rule
  • Senior classes will require average entry count of 3 or higher to qualify for series and year end awards. Junior classes in NTK rule book will not require a minimum entry count to qualify for awards
  • For every 2 race events worked a racer will receive 1 free race entry (limit of 1 free race entry per series removed)
  • All participants will abide by the Sportsmanlike Driving Guide - to be released and published soon.
  • Only drivers being weighed are allowed in the scale area. Drivers failing to meet weight requirement will be allowed to re-weigh once only
  • Tech Inspection Pill Draw
There are many additions to the 2.3.17 POST-RACE TECH rule, please read rule fully.

These are the major rule changes. It is the participants responsibility to know the rules please read the 2010 NTK Rulebook fully.

The article chronicles the experience of a recent MJDrive Superkart Challenge graduate at our newly repaved track. Read the experience of driving a 125cc stock shifter kart from the viewpoint of a rookie that has never driven a shifter kart before. NTK Board Member George Kraus NTK welcomes volunteers to help on race day and is always in need of corner workers. You do not need to be a member or racer to help work a race. Benefits include a free pass and a front row seat right in the middle of all the action. Visit the forum thread to view the worker list and sign up for a position. No experience is necessary please arrive 1 hour before racing starts for instructions. For more information call a Board Member.
