Driver News: Cole Glasson – Rotax Pan American Challenge Homestead Miami Report, Sept 7th

Cole Glasson made his first trip to the Homestead kart track in Miami, Florida to compete in the third round of the Rotax Pan American.

Cole began the day well considering it was his first time on this track. The 10 year old continued to get faster throughout the practice day working closely with DJ getting use to the track and the new FA kart; however, a thunderstorm caused practice to be cut short only getting four practice sessions in prior to day 2 of the event. On Saturday, Cole qualified P 7, in the prefinal, Cole worked his way up to P4, but the lack of track time opened the door to some of the faster competitors. He would end up in P 5. In the final, Cole would stay with the pack for most of the race swapping positions throughout the race, but in the end would find himself crossing the line in P 8.

Day 3, Sunday's action brought better results as Cole qualified P6 for the pre final. However, a decision by the track officials to put additional cones on the track, a change from the previous day, splitting the track 3 ways confusing the drivers. None of the kids or any of us was aware of this change until it was time to go racing. The mini-max drivers all arrived to the green flag and the cones and all wondered which way to go, left, right, middle. As a result some of the competitors drove over some of the cones and as a result Cole collected a cone in turn 1. This would push him to the outside off the track surface and where he lost valuable time and positions and fell to the back of the field. Cole was able to work his way back up to P8 prior to the checkered flag waiving where he would start the final. The final race of the weekend would be under "rain conditions" and the track configuration and racing line was changed by the officials because one third of the racing surface was under water. With a light mist continuing to fall and a very rain soaked track, the racing began. Again, Cole showed great driving skills once more running a very smart and safe race, not making any mistakes and working his way up to a P5 finish. This finish would keep him in 4th for the points race for the year. Cole will be spending the next several weeks working with his coach DJ, preparing for the SKUSA Super Nationals in Vegas and an exciting 2011 Race Season kicking off at the Florida Winter Tour.

Cole would like to thank DeFrancesco Racing and Supertune's Ben Cruttenden who supported him this weekend along with his teammates Dore Chaponick, Lachland DeFrancesco, and Devlin Defrancesco along with their tuners. In addition, special thanks to Bobby Wilson-Team Manager, Andy DeFrancesco-Team Owner, and his long time tuner and coach, DJ Ortiz- KRS Owner.
