Then it announced a new partnership with INDYCAR that will provide the winner of this year's King of the Streets stock moto race with a spot in the Mazda Road to Indy driver combine that features a free test in a USF2000 car.
Later it was announced that the winner of the Yamaha SuperCan Medium class will win $4,000 and almost $7,000 in prize money will be guaranteed in that one class.
Today the Rock Island Grand Prix is excited to announce the largest payout for a single race in the event's 17 year history. This is a one-time opportunity for 2011 only.
The driver who finishes first in the 2011 TAG Senior race will take home $5,000 and the field will compete for a total guaranteed payout of more than $8,000 in total prize money. The purse will be distributed throughout the field.
Second place will pay $1,000, with third place earning $750. Additional places through ninth place will pay the same as other Rock Island Grand Prix classes except that payouts are guaranteed regardless of the number of entries.
The Rock Island Grand Prix, sponsored by AT&T, will be held Sept. 3-4, 2011.
In addition, the driver who gains the most positions during the race (minimum of 5) will receive a check for $200. The driver leading at the halfway point of the race will win $100 and the driver who qualifies on the poll will win $100.
"TAG Racing has been a cornerstone of the Rock Island Grand Prix since its infancy under its founder, Tom Argy Jr.," said Roger Ruthhart, president of the Rock Island Grand Prix.
"TAG was originally designed as a local, entry-level class whose competitors would gather each year at one or two festival-type events like Rock Island to enjoy the spirit and camaraderie of racing," he continued.
"Today it has grown into one of the most popular national classes. We hope that this historic payout will encourage all TAG drivers and teams to come to Rock Island and enjoy our truly unique festival experience and take home one of the biggest checks in kart racing."
If necessary, a Last Chance Qualifier will be held to give drivers a chance to win their way into the field for the TAG Senior feature. TAG USA rules and approved tires and compounds will apply. Spec fuel and oils have been designated in the Supplemental Rules.
