Sir,
You must have a Snell 2000 or later, helmet. Don't forget you must have a neck brace and gloves to drive your Kart on the track.

Sir,
No not really, BUT, how much are your hands worth ? Good driving gloves not only help you grip the wheel better, but protect the hands/wrist in case of a crash. The general rule is that there is no exposed skin. The rest is up to you. I use driving gloves and they have been used. Just a note on the helmet is that I suspect that the rule for a Snell 2000 rating will be changed at the rules meeting to a Snell 2005 rating in Jan.

Mike,

As a side note I would NOT suggest that you buy a used helmet. You would never know if it had been dropped, thrown or whatever (on accident or purpose). Each time a helmet is banged against something a piece of the shell integrity is removed. My son and I have worked many races and based on experience you really want that helmet to work when you need it.

So, a DOT rating is not sufficient for Kart racing...

Please excuse the question, but if a DOT approved helmet is legal for riding motocycles on the street, it's not necessarily approved for Kart racing??? Seems rather ambigious to me...

I'm just getting into karting and thought I could use my DOT approved helmet that I used for riding sport bikes... It appears that is not the case...

Mark,
Yes you can use a Current DOT helmet. I don't know what the current rating number is, M2, M3 ? It must be a full face sheild helmet. I don't know but the tech. man at the track will. I am just use to using the Snell rating number and not the DOT number. The club kept the Snell 2000 rating for the current year rule. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I broke down and purchased a new helmet that is DOT & Snell 2005 approved... I may not have much grey matter upstairs, but what I have I want to keep...
