US GP in Austin

Anyone know if there will be a Kart event that weekend? Yes I know its a ways off still.... Might be fun to make a big splash as club if there is. I read that they are planning on having kart racing at the track eventually, would be cool if they have some the weekend of the GP.

Matt,

They are planning a kart track at the facility

The area for the kart track is here

This is going to be great for our sport. Lots of promotion for karting. It sounds like it is going to be a concession type track. Hopefully they will also have plenty of big kart race events too.

Matt,

The following link is to the Autoweek website and it highlights many concerns of State and local government offices. In a nut shell; access to the proposed track area is limited and would require millions to be invested into infrastructure above and beyond the track facility.

Jim, yea, the first thing that i noticed when looking at the proposed layouts in the above links was that there was one road in and out of the facility. Good luck with that

Looks like it's right off or near(less than a mile) the SH 130 Toll Road, which is similar to I-35. There are two access roads from SH130, one from the north and one from the south, with a possible future road from the west. The road to the south appears to be 4 lane on their master plan, it's currently a 2 lane FM road. The road to the north appears to be a 4 lane divided highway almost all the way to the track location. The road to the west appears to be a small two lane road and would need much improvement to handle that kind of traffic.

If you match their picture up on google this appears to be the location.

So with that in mind, it's not much different than a lot of other tracks across the country. If I remember right 114 was a two lane road when TMS opened up, and there was really no other access to the north and small outlet to the west.

I think the thing that could hinder them most would be the floodplain problem. There appears to be the potential for a lot of water to roll through that property when the storms hit.
