New and have a few questions
by William Lochner » Thu Apr 21, 2011 3:46 pm
Hello everyone,
I will probably start racing chonda here in the next month or so but have some questions about safety equipment and any and all info is much appreciated
For race days do you have to have a full suit or can I wear jeans and a jacket?
Do the shoes have to be karting shoes or can I use my low top puma replicat shoes? (pretty much auto racing shoes without the flame retardant material and are below the ankle)
and finally can the helmet be SNELL M-2005? I know auto racing requires SNELL SA-2005/2010 but because of the flame retardant material used that would not necessarily be needed for karting I would assume?
Thanks to everyone with any information about this!!!

William, I can answer your questions:
On race days you can use just a racing jacket and jeans.
No low top shoes are permitted. High top shoes (must cover the ankle) are needed. You can use wrestling shoes to keep the cost down.
Yes, we can use a Snell approved M-2005 helmet.

If you need places to shop for gear, Bell has good sales almost all the time. I got my karting suit from them on the cheap. Also, dont forget a NECK BRACE. Another good place is SafeRacer.com

Yes. It is always a good idea to support your local kart shop whenever possible as we all want them around on race day when we need parts & equipment at the track!
Not only will they sell you the parts you need but they also offer great advice & track side support when you need it.
