Texas kart racer shifts to NASCAR Trucks
Nationally ranked kart racer, Jake French of Sachse, Texas has been selected to compete in the final two races of the 2012 NASCAR 360 Truck Series held at Houston Motorsports Park. Joe Butcher, team owner and series title sponsor of the 2012 BWFS 360 Truck Series handpicked French to pilot the #16 after choosing to retire from the position himself. French will put his driving skills to the test on October 13 and 27.
French began his racing career at age 8 running go karts in North Texas, he is a 4-time national champion and has competed in Egypt at the World Finals. Jake is one of the highest ranked shifter drivers in the country. In 2008 French teamed up with 3G Kart Racing in Houston, Texas. Owners of 3G, Dave and Jill Pauly were instrumental in bringing about this new endeavor. One year ago the Pauly’s generously provided the opportunity for Jake and his karting team mate, Jordon Musser to test a NASCAR 360 Truck. A test that has proven beneficial in the advancement of Jake’s racing career. Test truck owner, Ed Nastasi was impressed with the talent French displayed on the track specifically; his ease at the wheel, ability to communicate effectively on the radio and most importantly running competitive lap times.
Team owner, Joe Butcher, CEO of Butcher Welding & Fabrication Services of Houston has been a part of NASCAR racing in various capacities for 3 years as a driver, team owner and title sponsor. In 2010, Butcher added Kyle Books to the team as driver of the #16 truck. Books is also a career go kart racer and past competitor of French in several regional races making this merger a unique framework in the 360 series. Currently Books, driving the #17 truck is second in points and hoping to make his sponsor proud by clinching the 2012 championship.
