Being NTK president is a job that in the past has been dodged by almost all members. The elections in 2018 were the closest I can recall to having another runner.
This position is not that difficult as long as everything goes smoothly. However, when the going gets tough it can be a test on your confidence, wondering if you will have the correct solution for the problem at hand. It's tempting to think that the president will have an answer regardless of the circumstances; and to be honest, that's what I used to think. But often there is a gray area that has to be navigated.
My journey to present has been filled with the experience of my predecessors which I rely on all of the time. A background in racing and business and trying my best to handle the problems and week-to-week operations has helped immensely.
It also doesn't hurt being an empty-nester, which allows me the time to dedicate to this position. But, a little secret: I do this for that little plaque at the awards banquet at the end of the year; and I love it.
A quick note: make sure to get your annual inspection done as soon as possible and be sure your helmet is in date for this season.
See you at the races
John Ray, President
