More 80cc newbie questions

Post by Carlos Perez »

Hello, I am moving to the 80cc’s and trying to find answers to all the “101 questions” before blowing the engine! LOL I hope you can help.

Fuel-Oil Mix: I’ve seen comments in other forums that some are using 40:1 others 50:1, what do you recommend? Any specific oil brand?

Radiator: Should be distilled water, right? I know no coolant is allowed, what about Water Wetter, is it allowed and does it really help? What is the temperature range I should be at? I’ve seen comments 120-130F tops, is that right?

Transmission oil: 550 – 600 cc, what brand and how often do you recommend to change it?

Thanks

Carlos

Carlos,

I'm no expert on this yet, but I'll try to help you out.

Right now, I am running 40:1 with AMSOIL Dominator Oil Mix.

The water I run distilled with a water wetter, I am using AMSOIL Coolant Blast but you can use Redline Water Wetter, they both a very similar. I try to keep it around 130.

Finally, the gear oil, I am using Redline Lightweight Motorcycle Gear Oil with Shockproof. I don't know the change intervals but I read 600cc if you clean out the case, 550 if you drain and fill.

What I could tell in the rulebook, there are no spec oils, but thats just what I am using.

Motorcycles run 40 or 50:1 but they don't have the sustained high rpm operation that we do. I recommend 24:1

Thanks guys! I will adjust to 24:1

Yesterday I had my first practice and these shifters are fuuuun!!! :D Can't wait to race with you. My times were in the 42's, so still need to practice a bit more. Don't want to earn the "mobile chicane" nickname yet!
