Chonda class rules and gearing

Post by Jeff Bowlus »

Hi guys,
I live in Austin and have to travel to Dallas for work every so offen and would like to come race.

I have built my kart into a chonda and have started racing it at the New Braunfels track and plan to run some at he Katy track also.
The only rule That I see is you have diffrent is a spec tire,MG's
I have an old set of whites or do you all run the same tire?
If you could let me know what gearing your running also so I can come ready with close gearing to go up or down for my setup.

Thanks for any info

Hi Jeff,

That's Awesome that you want to come & race with us.

The club rule is used MG tyres. The important thing is they are used we don't care what compound. In fact you can use any brand of tyres but you won't get points or earn a ribbon if they are not MGs & the results will show a DQ but we will let you race on tyres that are not MGs.

On the gearing, I have an old Track Magic Dragon & the largest gear I can put on the back is a 53 because of a cross member. All the club races so far I had a 15 tooth driver gear. I just went to race at the SWRC Katy race & changed the driver gear to a 14 tooth (same 53 rear gear). I went & practiced here at NTK yesterday (with the 14 tooth driver gear) & went 3/10ths of a second faster than my previous best fast time. I'm not sure if it was all because of the gear though because I made a lot of other changes at Katy, I made the rear wheels a lot wider. I finally found some used 6 inch rears (thanks Bert & Karl Rupp! ) which I put on my kart for yesterday's practice too, previously I had 7.1 rears. So with all those changes I am not sure how much the gear affected my times (plus I am not a very consistent driver yet).

Jeff,

I asked my husband & he says if you have between a 15/58 & 14/53 you will be in the ball park.

Hey, Yaani-Mai Gaddy

You said that you changed to a 14T from the 15T driver.

I ordered a 15 driver and a 56 rear but the driver is the wrong one for my max tork clutch. :x
My question is if I can not get the right driver would you be willing to let me use your 15T driver for the night of racing.

I'm going to call ARC in the morning to see what happened and if they have and can ship me out the driver that fits.

Jeff,

We have extra driver gears we can sell you. You can come by the shop & pick it up or you can get it at the track on Saturday.

I just noticed you posted that you live out of town. Let me know if you want us to ship it to you.

Yaani-Mai,

Thanks, That will work out great if ARC will not be able to get me the driver.
